Gradient House is a considered renaissance of a Melbourne heritage dwelling - harnessing a complementary contrast between old and new to establish a warm and nurturing family home.
Elements of the existing home’s heritage are retained and restored – expressed as a celebration of history and identity through hues and finishes which inform the function and intention of each space. Concurrently, custom joinery and specialist sourced lighting establishes an augmented level of comfort and atmosphere to renew the user’s relationship with each room.
Finishes were chosen and considered to express their individual unique material qualities – evoking a warmth and connection to natural elements that softly establish the comfort of the family environment.
Outdoor spaces make use of existing structure to partition program and eloquently delineate zones whilst retaining fluid circulation both inside and out – encouraging a sense of journey through various transitions.
The rear extension affords the main living spaces direct access to the outdoor areas which make a virtue of the generous lot size – carefully dressed with landscaping by Paul Bangay.
